How do you use a CamelBak for the first time?
Follow these steps:
- Fill reservoir 1/2 full with warm water and mild soap.
- Shake reservoir to mix water and soap.
- Elevate the reservoir so drink tube exit port is at the base and Big Bite™ Valve is below the reservoir.
- Pinch bite valve, allowing solution to flow into drink tube, and through the bite valve.
Is it OK to leave water in a Camelbak?
If I leave water in my camelbak (after a ride) for 3-5 days and open the fill neck it feels kinda slimy in the bladder. I will flush after every ride and let it air out. Storing it in freezer is what many users are doing to prevent or slow bacteria growth.
How do you get water out of a Camelbak tube?
Fill the bladder with warm water (not so hot that it can scald you), add a cleaning tablet (or your home cleaning ingredients), seal it up and shake it. Lift the reservoir up, letting the tube drape into the sink; then pinch open the bite valve until you see water flowing out of it.

Place the tube in your mouth. Bite down on the tube and suck inward, just as you would when drinking from a straw. The suction power should allow the water to come out of the tube. Swallow the water until you’ve had enough, then release the drink tube. Clip it to the hydration pack strap on your chest.

Leave the cap open and hang the reservoir to dry. Many CamelBak hydration reservoirs come with hidden dryer arms that keep the reservoir open when it’s hung upside down. If your water bladder doesn’t have dryer arms, make a water bladder drying hanger, as seen in the picture below.
